Hidden Water Leaks in Houston, TX

A leak in your plumbing system can cause a great deal of damage to your home and your belongings. The water can weaken the structure of your home, warp floors and walls and ruin furniture and other belongings. The dampness can also lead to the growth of harmful mold and bacteria.

Often times, when a leak occurs, the source is readily evident. Either one can see the rushing water or hear its sound. Smaller leaks, however, can be more insidious. The water hidden inside your walls or ceiling can travel a great distance before it becomes evident, making it difficult to know where the problem lies.

Other hidden leaks can occur in underground pipes or pipes that run under concrete. You may not even be aware that it is happening unless you happen to notice water pooling in parts of your yard, hear a gurgling or dripping sound, or notice an increase on your monthly usage bill. Lucky for you, Wedgeworth Plumbing also services slab leaks, too.

If you suspect you have a hidden leak, you can check by first making sure that all the taps in your house are shut off and that none of the appliances that consume water are in use. Then, check your water meter. If it indicates that water is still being consumed, you probably have a hidden leak.

Locating The Source Of Your Houston Water Leak

Gone are the days of opening up ceilings and walls in an effort to locate a hidden leak. The experts at Wedgeworth Plumbing use  the latest in leak detection technology. Included among these are sensitive audio equipment that can detect the sound of an underground leak and tiny waterproof video cameras that can travel through pipes allowing us to see the condition of your plumbing from within. These tools greatly minimize the need to damage floors, walls and ceilings.

Quite an unusual experience from a consumer home services provider. The gents who came out to my house were prompt, knowledgeable, and courteous. Definitely good things, but these things should be table stakes for service providers. (I recognize that it is not, unfortunately.) Three things made these guys stand out.1) They took the time to listen and explain their rationale for their *recommendations* and *options* without pressure. Many plumbers take advantage of the fact that the consumer is usually stressed and emotionally compromised if things have gotten bad enough that they have to call for professional help. Even though my situation was not a plumbing emergency, I still felt that these guys were being deliberate about avoiding pressure. They're attitude was more like "let's find the best solutions for *you*" than "how can I maximize this month's sales bonus."2) They were more problem-solvers than repairmen. Rather than just propose "it'll be best if we just replace everything" (which is usually more profitable for them, especially when selling you items with egregious markups), these guys were willing to try different things to get to a satisfying outcome with the least amount of cost and risk. That takes a bit more thinking and creativity than manual labor. But the approach can save the customer money, and may even open them to spending more on other things because they've discovered new opportunities to add value. It may also mean that the customer spends less, but these guys seemed to be more concerned about maximizing value than maximizing sales.3) Flat-rate pricing. I don't imagine that they use flat-rate pricing for all situations, but they seem to use flat-rate pricing for many more common plumbing issues. This is great because you get a price (not an estimate) up front.I wish more folks ran their businesses like these guys. The high rating is well-deserved.read more

Nothing’s more frustrating than not being able to use your washing machine and sink because of a clog in your old home’s plumbing. I called Wedgeworth Plumbing around 3 pm on a Thursday, and they scheduled a plumber, TJ, for the next morning. His first try with the snake helped clear the sink, but the washing machine was still overflowing. Instead of giving up, TJ stayed an extra two hours to get everything working. I even found out you can snake the line from the roof—who knew? TJ was great about explaining what updates we should consider without pushing anything. I’ll think about those for the future, but for now, I’m just happy to have a working sink and washer again!read more
